The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) has awarded Wagga Wagga based company Solar Professionals the contract to install 2.76MW of rooftop PV systems on more than 800 properties across the state of NSW, starting in April as part of a market tender process.

The contract is Solar Professionals fifth with AHO, taking the company’s total installations for the agency to more than 8.1MW across over 2,500 properties since 2017 enabling the company to be a main solar provider for the AHO.0

Solar Professionals Managing Director Dan Kimber said, “the project will focus on up to 5kW installs on homes in the South Coast and Western Sydney regions of NSW over the next nine months, with handover expected throughout the calendar year.

“We’re incredibly proud to have partnered the AHO in this important work in previous solar programs over the past four years, especially given our regional base. As partners since 2017, we’ve installed thousands of solar systems on public housing and seen the outcomes firsthand. The solar program provides real economic benefits to Aboriginal people, while also allowing our business us to create new employment opportunities for Indigenous team members.”

The NSW Government announced a $212 million stimulus package to further expand the AHO’s work across NSW and create employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal people..

The latest solar round follows a similar AHO program completed last year, which targeted homes in Northern NSW and the Central West and Murray / Riverina areas, where Solar Professionals is headquartered.

The installs are making a real difference for Aboriginal and regional tenants, delivering free energy when the sun is shining and reducing financial stress for families by saving them up to $1,000 each year on their energy bills. It’s also been an important way the NSW Government partnership with energy providers is leading by example to help move NSW to move towards net zero emissions.

Solar Professionals will soon recruit a further four Aboriginal employees to join our installation teams to deliver the project following the AHO contract win.
